Nothing adds an extra touch of quality to a business card design then going that extra mile and adding silver or gold foil. But it’s not for everyone. The foil requires a special stamp created by the printers. This extra step adds to the cost of printing.
But once you have the stamp, you can use it over and over again on cards and other print collateral. The only thing you can not change is the size of the stamp. So with a little bit of forward-thinking, it’s possible to offset the cost of the stamp by using it on more than one print job.
This is what we did for Riviera Residences Phuket. We designed a set of brochures, leaflets, and cards that could all re-use the foil stamps multiple times. This would minimize production costs without cutting corners on quality.

Update 2023 – As printing technology evolves, more digital printers now offer special finishes like metallic foil. While it is much cheaper, digital printers can’t handle the super heavy-weight card stock that offset printers can handle.
